The Capri born and based photographer found his early inspiration though the works of Cartier Bresson, Robert Doisneau and Edouard Boubat, flipping through books at the Beaubourg library in Paris. The young man had taken this cultural trip thanks to a grant from the Villa San Michele / Axel Munthe foundation. Later meaningful encounters with masters such as Franco Fontana, Eikoh Hosoe, along with Umberto's tireless dedication to his art, will pave the way for the self taught artist to establish himself as one the most prominent photographer in Capri. Umberto has done numerous solo exhibitions including "Amada Havana" at the Brescia museum in 2000,"Visione di un isola" at the Hartman photo Gallery in Munich in 2003, "Visions of Italy" in 2005 and "Sea" 2006, |

Presswith his island, in an endless and never satisfied quest. This is why his photos are always miraculously refreshing, even though some of them represent subjects that have been photographed a million if not a billiard times and therefore could have seemed kitch or dejà vu."
Corriere del Mezzogiorno / Francesco Durante
"Umberto steels the blu from Capri. In his photos, the famous golf is grey and the sky above black. Not a bad idea! His surrealists shots open a new horizon beyond the million cliches already done of the island."
Digital photo
"Light, nature, magic. From the lense and from the word of Capri photographer Umberto D'Aniello transpires an immense passion for the island s well as a mystic vision of the world."
Capri Review
"Through very expressive black and white pictures Umberto D'Aniello shows Capri in a new light"
Rotary magazine
"Photographer Umberto D'Aniello portrays in wonderful yearning black-and-white pictures what the island of Capri has to offer besides its postcard motives and which – some very melancholic – moods fascinate people about her."
Vogue
"Through their stark contrasts the Capresian Photographer creates moods even in known motives."
Die Zeit
"Black is magic. Because it is a color which for ever presents puzzles. It can radiate both: power and eroticism."
